Magpie Dance in 1985 starting from ground zero against all the odds to a successful model of income generation over 35 years.

I founded Magpie Dance in 1985 as the sole volunteer leading inclusive dance workshops with adults with learning disabilities with no staff, support or funding in a social service setting a huge challenge. I initially began with no training in fundraising, management, leadership development, governance and other areas that are required to start an organisation. Learning how to fundraise on the job, my first success in 1993 was achieving £40K from a major trust. Sink or swim? How did Magpie Dance not just survive but continue to grow and flourish to achieve funding from diverse sources over 35 years?
